Rockin and Recycling Field Trip

Type: Field Trip
Date: Thursday, October 6, 2016
Valid Livescan, Current drivers license, Proof of auto insurance

Details

Drive students from WSS to Santa Rosa and back. Depart from school at 8:40 am. Return to school around 1:15 pm.

This field trip at Crane Creek Regional Park will focus on the properties of the common rocks and minerals in the park and the processes that formed them. Students will also learn the importance of recycling products manufactured from minerals and rocks, like glass and aluminum, as a simple way to conserve natural resources.

Crane Creek Regional Park features rolling grasslands and beautiful stands of oaks on 128 acres east of Rohnert Park. Ridges offer sweeping views of the countryside and Rohnert Park, and meadows are covered with wild poppies in spring. The park has 3.5 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding and an 18-hole disc golf course. Crane Creek flows through the middle of the park and is lined with willow, alder, buckeye and bay trees. Bring water; there is no drinking fountain at this park. For more information, see the brochure.

Meeting Place

Meet at the designated meeting spot is in Chinatown on the corner of Bush and Grant Streets in front of the Starbucks coffee shop at 4:45-5:00pm. Will depart this meeting spot at 5:00pm to walk together to find a place along Kearny Street to watch the parade. Watch the Parade somewhere along Kearney Street  (which cross street exactly will be determined by the group and space availability as we walk together)

5th grade students made lanterns in the classroom. We encourage students to bring, light and carry their lanterns to help us identify each other in the crowds.

This is meant to be a fun and easy way to spend an hour or so together while we put a little extra care and polish into our classroom. Unlike Parent Meetings, this is a completely optional event, and you should feel no guilt if you can not attend.

Please note that there is no childcare support. Well-behaved students are welcome, but they must be actively supervised by their parents at all times.

Possible projects

  1. Hang curtains
  2. Hang student artwork
  3. Hang kitchen cabinets
  4. Fix vaccum cleaner. (May have bad belt)
  5. Sort library books
  6. Sort art supplies
  7. Adjust disk heights
  8. Tighten creaking chairs
  9. Add new feet to chair legs
  10. Light cleaning and dusting

Things you might want to bring

  1. Drinks and munchies to share
  2. Your favorite cleaning and handyman tools

Visit Tom's shop and learn the tips and tricks for making his winning boat design. A perfectly usable boat can be built for as little as $50, or for about $400 using high quality marine grade materials.

Address
2058 Laguna Rd
Santa Rosa 95407

Sonoma Creek Cleanup Field Trip

Type: Field Trip
Date: Thursday, March 23, 2017

Details

Note: Tentative date change to Thursday, March 23

Students from the Credo High One Planet Club want to educate and involve the community in taking care of the earth, and in living sustainably.

On Friday, March 17, they are holding a county-wide watershed cleanup in honor of World Water Day, which is celebrated annually on March 22.

Our class will participate, but due to a scheduling conflict with parent conferences, we hope to move this event to Thursday, March 23. If plans hold, we will hike to Sonoma Creek, explore the creek environment, clean up a section of the creek, have a great picnic, and then hike back to school.

Bodega Bay Wooden Boat Challenge

Type: Family Event
Date: Saturday, April 8, 2017

Details

An expected crowd of 2500 spectators will cheer on teams of four--who have just three hours to build wooden boats from scratch--before racing them through a marked course in the bay!

Competition is fierce and fun as teams work with the materials provided (no power tools allowed, except battery operated drills) at this family friendly community fundraiser. Expect creative designs, costumed teams, skilled craftspeople and at least one ‘sinker’.  It is no surprise that the Wooden Boat Challenge is a highlight of the festival and continues to grow in popularity year after year.

The Wooden Boat Challenge is one of the Bodega Bay Fisherman Festival’s main attractions, with thousands of spectators cheering on 18 teams competing for the first place trophy and bragging rights.

Teams are given limited materials to build a boat (no power tools except screwdrivers) before racing it around a short, marked course, and to do so faster than any other team. Youth teams compete for free!
