Tom Segura, Boatbuilder

Tom went out of his way to provide our class with an excellent day-long, hands-on tutorial on the design and construction of his winning competition boat design. Our class launched three teams in the 2017 Bodega Bay Wooden Boat Challenge, sweeping the field with First, Second, and Third Place wins in the Elementary Youth Division.

A native of France, Tom came to the United States at a young age. He grew up in Southern California where he developed his passion for the water. His interests in woodworking and the ocean converged in the mid-70s when he starting building custom yachts. For the next 20 years, Tom continued to hone skills in not only woodworking, but the other materials and technology he continues to use in his furniture today.

Tom has been designing and building unique, site specific pieces since starting Tom Segura Furniture in 1994. Modern lines and the unique features of the materials, including concrete, metal and glass, serve as the foundation for Tom’s furniture designs. Tom’s interests outside of his business include kayaking and sailing with his family, gardening in his yard and working on his home. He also enjoys volunteering at the Petaluma River Heritage Center and competing in the Boat Building Challenge. Originally from Marseille, France, Tom speaks fluent English and French.
